Galaxy S8 Plus no Display
A customer brought in a Galaxy S8 Plus (G955U) with no display and I happened to have another device at my shop with a bad LCD but that was still showing some picture so I attached that motherboard to his screen and found that the screen is actually good. The device does turn on and when I plug it into my monitor I can even use the phone that way so I know it is functioning to some extent. I watched the video on YouTube about fixing no display on the Galaxy S8 Plus but the one I have here does not have the grounded line in the same way that it does in the Microsoldering video, so should I still try replacing the MAX77838 IC chip or is there something else I should check first? Thank you in advance!
Well, we've had some issues with this repair. A lot of times, it is indeed the Max77838 chip. Before replacing it, diode mode the coils and caps around the chip and see if there is a short. From our experience, it's one of the corner pads under the chip that is short. Anyways, even after replacing this chip, we've found that the problem will reoccur, so there is something else going on that we have yet to diagnose. Therefore, we've stopped offering this service as a repair option and we only do it for data recovery now.
